Description

What to expect

  • Like Ayala Avenue today, Escolta Street was the business district of Old Manila during the first half of the 20th century. Back then, Escolta was part of the colonial cityscape built by the Americans, and was controlled mostly by capitalists, big-time businessmen, and banking tycoons. World War II bombings laid most of the structures to waste, leaving some remarkable weathered buildings and abandoned movie houses, mostly designed after Beaux Arts and Art Deco architecture.
  • Today, Escolta is being revived from Manila’s lost heritage. Explore Escolta on foot and rediscover the city!
  • Revisit your history lessons as you stroll along Manila’s streets from past to present
